Will the NFL make an example out of Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson? | A decision will be made very soon

The NFL is nearing a decision on the punishment of Browns recently acquired quarterback Deshaun Watson. According to Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain Dealer, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell said a decision will be made soon.

“I can’t give you a timeline,” Goodell told reporters, “We are nearing the end of the investigative period and then it will be handled by our Disciplinary Officer.”

A Disciplinary Officer will be the one that makes the decision, and they are hired by the NFL and NFLPA. After the NFL proposes the punishment, Goodell handles any appeal process.

I personally feel Deshaun Watson is going to be suspended the entire season, for his actions. If you remember correctly this happened to Ezekiel Elliott. I think the NFL will suspend Watson for the entire season, and Watson will file an appeal. I think during that appeal time, Watson would be allowed to play for the Browns though! Cowboys RB Ezekiel Elliott was facing a six game suspension but played while he went through the appeal process.

The Second Circuit court granted Elliott an administrative stay. The Cowboys RB didn’t have to serve his suspension while his appeal was ongoing. Elliott would in fact drop his appeal later on and serve a six game suspension.

This case could be very interesting, but with Watson’s contract being fully guaranteed, I doubt he really cares if he has to sit out an entire year. It will be interesting to see what happens.

I think the NFL is going to make this case a huge deal. They should take these allegations very seriously. There has to be a zero tolerance for sexual assault or sexual allegations. I am not sure what the league will do, but I think they will do everything in their power to look tough while handing down the punishment.
