Patriots first round draft pick Cole Strange was shocked he was drafted in the first
Cole Strange was selected in the first round by the Patriots the fans were not the only people shocked. According to Cole’s father Greg Strange, he told MassLive.com that the call came as a shock.
“[Cole] said, ‘Sir, I don’t mean to be disrespectful at all, but I’ve gotta know because I’ve got some crazy friends. Is this a prank?’ The guy said, ‘Hold on just a second.’ And then Bill Belichick got on the phone and of course, unless you’ve been under a rock for the last 20 years, you know Bill Belichick’s voice,”
Greg Strange said. “As soon as I heard Bill Belichick’s voice, Cole and I both started screaming and hugging and acting crazy. Probably saying a bunch of inappropriate stuff. We were so excited. To his credit, you’ve gotta love the guy, Belichick is sitting there and when we got through, the first break he had, he said, ‘Hey Cole, you’ve gotta act like you’ve been there, man.’ It was classic to us. We absolutely loved it.”
At 6 feet 4 inches and 310 pounds, Cole Strange is a dog. He is mean as hell and reminds me a lot of Richie Incognito.
Cole Strange is one of the best small school football players in the entire NFL Draft. Cole sat down with NFL Draft Diamonds writer Jimmy Williams and when asked if he didn’t play football what sport would he have played, Cole mentioned wrestling or a combat sport. The kid is as tough as nails.
If you didn’t play football, what other sport would you play?
I would wrestle or some sort of combat sport. There’s just something about the physicality and grit with those sports that are similar to football where you are imposing your will on another human being.
NFL Draft Diamonds was created to assist the underdogs playing the sport. We call them diamonds in the rough.
