Could there still be three to four more quarterbacks moved this off-season?
Free Agency officially kicks off today at 4:01pm, even though we know that the Jaguars will overspend, and the Chargers will make some big splashes, but the big news here is the quarterback carousel.
The NFL has been really fun this off-season. Ever since Matthew Stafford won a Super Bowl with the Rams, the NFL went on a copycat mission.
Everyone wants to trade for a veteran quarterback now. There have already been some wild moves. Carson Wentz to the Commanders, Russell Wilson going to the Broncos. I mean the quarterback trades have been great. You had some teams sign quarterbacks like the Giants, Dolphins and Steelers. The Chargers signed Chase Daniel as a back-up and the market is still poppin.
There are rumors that Deshaun Watson will be dealt, and he is talking to several teams to include the Saints, Falcons, Browns and Panthers. The Colts traded their starting quarterback, The Seahawks still don’t have a quarterback, the Steelers must be content with Mitch Trubisky, and the Bills still have no one to back-up Josh Allen. If you really want to laugh, the Texans will need a quarterback as well when Watson is traded. Also, we stopped talking about Derek Carr, but could he be dealt?
Jameis Winston is available still as well as former Heisman Trophy Winner Marcus Mariota. But, will more trades be coming? It sure sounds like it.
Jimmy G is still on the 49ers roster, he could be dealt, but the Niners could decide to hold onto him in case someone goes down with injury because he would then become the hottest commodity in the NFL. The Browns and Baker are getting close to an ugly break-up, the Packers extended Aaron Rodgers which means Jordan Love could potentially be available for trade. I mean this free agency has been a mess when it comes to the quarterback position.
If the Falcons do in fact land Deshaun Watson, then Matt Ryan would probably be on his way out. Carolina has Sam Darnold as well, and if they land Watson he would likely be dealt.
The quarterback class is not good in the 2022. In reality no quarterback should be drafted until mid 2nd or later in my honest opinion, but teams will be desperate. Too many teams want a franchise quarterback and there are not enough of them to go around.
At this point, I would not be shocked if Colin Kaepernick did get a workout. I know it sounds crazy, but these quarterback options are not very pretty. Someone is going to have a really crappy quarterback this season. Will it be your team?
