New York Giants want to move one of their first round picks to land more picks in the 2023 Draft | Bills should be calling

Ahmad Sauce Gardner is one of the best players in the 2022 NFL Draft
Whatever team lands Ahmad “Sauce’ Gardner is going to land a top tier cornerback prospect in the 2022 NFL Draft. He is a superstar in the making.

The Buffalo Bills are a player or two away from getting over the hump, and let’s face it a top rated cornerback in this draft is not going to fall to them at 25. The New York Giants on the other hand have Joe Schoen who comes from guess where? BUFFALO…..

So, let me explain. Yesterday, Peter King stated that the New York Giants want to trade one of their two first round picks to pick up more draft capital in 2023.

The Giants, picking fifth and seventh overall, are likely to look to move one of them to try for multiple first-rounders next year.

That is a top 10 pick, which means you have to give up a lot to get there, but the Buffalo Bills are picking 25th in the 2022 NFL Draft and they should absolutely make the move. The Bills filled a lot of holes this year in free agency but their most glaring need is CB2. The Bills could potentially trade up to number 7 and have a pick at the best cornerbacks in the draft.

Imagine a healthy Tre’Davious White with a player like Sauce Gardner or even Daryl Stingley Jr.? What would it cost the Bills though to get up that high? That is the question, but let’s review a scenario to see if it makes sense for the Bills and the Giants.

Currently, the Giants have only $3.1 million in salary cap space and will need upwards of $12.5 million to spend on their 2022 NFL draft class — assuming they use all nine picks. And given the rates of pay for the fifth and seventh overall selections (specific to position), New York may not be able to afford those picks.

So does that mean the Giants could be looking to save some money as well as trying to stack up next year to land a rookie quarterback? That sure sounds like the plan, so let’s try to work up a trade that makes sense for the Bills and the Giants.

The Bills pick is basically going to be a late round pick like it is this year. The Bills could give up their first, and third next year in 2023, they could give up a 2nd this year with a 5th this year in 2022. So it would look like this:

New York Giants receive:

  • Bills 2023 First Round Pick
  • Bills 2023 Third Round Pick
  • Bills 2022 Second Round Pick
  • Bills 2022 Fifth Round Pick

Buffalo Bills receive:

  • Giants 2022 First Round Pick #7

Is it a lot of draft capital? Yes, it truly is, but the Bills have a chance to land a generational talent at the cornerback position. I personally do not think there is a cornerback that has been drafted in the past five years that is as talented as Sauce Gardner or Derek Stingley Jr.

The Bills just added Von Miller and beefed up their defensive line. The great thing for the Bills is they would still keep their 1st round pick in the 2022 NFL Draft which is pick 25. Brandon Beane could technically trade back out of the first and pick up some additional picks because teams could be willing to move up to draft a quarterback so they can give him a fifth year.

In the end, the Bills need to get on the phone. It is now or never, and every other team in the AFC is making power moves. Bills need to as well.
