Jalil Lecky the star pass rusher from San Diego State University recently sat down with NFL Draft Diamonds writer Justin Berendzen.

What type of energy do bring onto the football field?

I think I bring a don’t stop, don’t quit energy. If you get knocked down get back up.

What sets you apart from other defensive linemen?

That I haven’t really reached the potential that I know I can play at and the best is yet to come.

What are your favorite moments from your football life?

When we are down in the game and the offense isn’t putting it together and we take it one down at a time and go out there and execute.

How do you handle challenges both in life and on the football field?

I basically just chalk it up to God and go out there and have an approach.

If you could hang out with any football player past or present for a day who and why?

Maxx Crosby, because the guy is unbelievable and he has a motor like mine and the way he goes out there and executes. I would love to have a day with him.

If there was a billboard with 5 of your traits on it which 5 traits would be up there?

Hardworking, empathetic, encouraging, gratitude, perseverance.

What are you looking to achieve as a football player going forward?

I just want people to know that I gave it my all and put his nose down and gets through everything and make a nonprofit or donate to organizations to change people’s lives in Nigeria.

What should we know about Jalil Lecky the person?

When you first meet him I’m shy but when you get to know me I’m pretty chill and people say I look like Frozone.

What do you think are the keys to success on the football field?

I feel like it’s different for every position. We had 3 in our defensive line room. 1. Get to the quarterback. 2. Reset the line of scrimmage. 3. Fanatical effort.

What would a team get in a player like you?

They are getting an edge rusher, someone who is willing and able to rush the edge and someone who played everywhere on the line in a 4-3 and is very versatile.

How are you planning to prepare for the draft?

Right now I’ve been training at a facility in San Diego monday through friday and on the weekends I do defensive line drills and hand drills.

What made you decide you wanted to be a football player?

To be honest I started strictly by chance. I was out with my stepdad and little brother in 8th grade and my friend was signing up for football and I was like this could be fun so I signed up and it’s been really fun and changed my life.
