2022 NFL Draft Prospect: Zyon McCollum, DB, Sam Houston State University

Zyon McCollum is the definition of a huge cornerback. He has transitioned into one of the best cover cornerbacks in the entire country. The small school corner from Sam Houston State is a beast on the back end for the Bearkats.
The Galveston, Texas native has earned All-Southland Awards the past three years. Last year he was an All-Southland Conference first team All-American. He is a huge kid standing at 6’3 and is physical.
Zyon is one of the best cover corners in the Southland conference and he has been amazing since coming to SHSU. As a true freshman he played in all 14 games, starting 10. He finished with three interceptions to become the first Bearkat freshman to have 3 interceptions since 1973.
In 2018, the huge corner would continue to showcase his skills. He was a first team All-Conference player and made the All-Academic team. Zyon started all 11 games and finished the season with 44 tackles, and added another three interceptions.
Over the past two years he continues to shine. He played in 9 games in 2019 and came away as a 2nd Team All-Conference player. Last year he was a first team All-Conference. He has racked up 173 tackles in his career and has 11 career interceptions, with 48 pass breakups. Most teams stay away from him and they should!
Check out his film above and you will see why we think he is a legit NFL prospect.
NFL Draft Diamonds Scouting Notes
When I watch his film I see flashbacks to the old school Seahawks Legion of Boom! Richard Sherman and Brandon Browner were big and physical cornerbacks. McCollum is a big corner who is physical and fast. I think NFL teams will watch his film and see him in person and fall in love. The kid has a legit chance of hearing his name called in the 2022NFL Draft. His stock is definitely rising– Damond Talbot, Owner, NFL Draft Diamonds
