Justin Berendzen (@jrberendzen on Twitter) with my top 5 division 3 matchups of week 9

1.Hardin-Simmons University at Howard Payne University

This should be fun two good teams going at it. Peyton Lowe sophomore linebacker is one of Howard Payne’s best defensive players with 44 tackles, 8 TFLs and 2 PBUs. The Hardin-Simmons offense is led by senior quarterback Kyle Jones who has 1,549 passing yards and 16 touchdowns. The Hardin-Simmons defensively have freshman defensive back Davonte Nephew who has 22 tackles and 3 interceptions. Howard Payne grad wide receiver Jake Parker is the guy to watch as he has 713 receiving yards and 9 touchdowns.

2.Susquehanna University at John Hopkins University

Only ranked matchup in week 9 if you go by the coaches poll. Hopkins offense has junior quarterback Ryan Stevens who has 2,498 passing yards and 21 touchdowns. In Stevens way for the River Hawks is senior linebacker Brendan Krumenacker who has 45 tackles, 11 TFLs, 5 PBUs and 3.5 sacks. The River Hawks offense has junior running back Frankie Negrini who has 414 rushing yards and 8 touchdowns. Hopkins defensively has Luke Schuermann sophomore defensive lineman who has 21 tackles, 11 TFLs and 7 sacks.

3.Washington and Jefferson College at Grove City College

I expect this to be a very interesting PAC matchup between 2 6-1 teams. Grove City has one of the top division 3 wide receivers in senior Cody Gustafson who has 915 receiving yards and 10 touchdowns in the season so far. The Washington and Jefferson defense has junior defensive lineman Alex Keith who has 41 tackles, 8 TFLs and 3.5 sacks. For Washington and Jefferson offensively they have junior running back Joey Koroly who has 438 rushing yards and 5 touchdowns. Patrick Mark senior defensive back is the guy to watchout for on Grove City’s defense as he has 44 tackles, 4.5 TFLs, 4 PBUs and 2 interceptions.

4.Ithaca College at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute

RPI is going to have to rebound quickly after there loss last week because they play host to ranked Ithaca College. RPI’s offense is led by grad quarterback George Marinopoulos who has 1,512 passing yards and 19 touchdowns. Senior defensive back Anthony Robinson of Ithaca has 27 tackles, 5 PBUs and 3 interceptions. Ithaca has grad receiver Andrew Vito offensively who has 557 receiving yards and 4 touchdowns. Defensively for RPI they have senior Joe Deptula who has 49 tackles, 6 TFLs and 2 PBUs.

5.Hobart College at Union College

Hobart just beat RPI last week and is going for another upset this week against Union. Senior running back Ike Irabor leads the Union offense with 499 rushing yards and 8 touchdowns. Defensively for Hobart you have to watch out for senior linebacker Emmett Forde who has 30 tackles, 9 TFLs and 3 sacks. Junior Rayshawn Boswell is the running back for Hobart and he is the driving force of the offense with 684 rushing yards and 11 touchdowns. Union defense has junior linebacker Thomas Cavallo who has 30 tackles, 7 TFLs, and 5 PBUs.
