Jets are officially shopping QB Sam Darnold, These five teams should call New York

Sam Darnold Trade Block Five teams
Sam Darnold is officially on the trade block. Who should trade for him? We break down five potential bidders.

The New York Jets are officially shopping quarterback Sam Darnold. Today, Joe Douglas the teams General Manager stated he is open to listening to teams that inquire about Darnold, and said he has no hard timeline on the decision.

Mel Kiper Jr, actually talked about the Jets dealing Darnold and said he would not be shocked if the Jets would entertain an offer for a 2nd to 3rd for Darnold.

They’ve been in the cellar of the AFC East for years, have another new coach and have the picks to turn things around quickly. They have two first-round picks (Nos. 2 and 23), a very high second-round pick (No. 34) and two third-rounders (Nos. 66 and 87). This is a huge draft for general manager Joe Douglas, and it starts with the Sam Darnold decision. If Douglas & Co. want to stick with Darnold at quarterback for another year, they have to get him some weapons so they can get a fuller evaluation. If they deal Darnold — they could get a second- or third-rounder for him, I think — they’re almost certainly taking a quarterback with the No. 2 pick, but they still need to help him out. So they need to add offensive playmakers and boost the depth of talent on defense. It’s not easy, but they have the capital to do it — if they hit on their picks.

With that being said, let’s look at five teams that should at least call about Darnold.

Carolina Panthers – I know this is not what the Panthers fans would want but I think he would flourish in Carolina. Add in the fact that he would get Robby Anderson back and have a weapon like Christian McCaffrey in the backfield. If the Panthers can land Darnold for a second or third they can re-sign Taylor Moten and go OL in round one to protect their new QB.

San Francisco 49ers – The Niners reportedly called the Panthers about Teddy Bridgewater. If you are going to spend a draft pick to acquire a quarterback you would be crazy not to at least call to check on Darnold. I feel Darnold is a way better prospect than Bridgewater at this point. The Niners are obviously frustrated with Jimmy G, so it will be interesting to see what happens moving forward.

Denver Broncos – Yes, the Broncos need to call about Darnold. I feel Darnold and Lock fighting for the top spot would be healthy for the Broncos. The Broncos have tons of weapons and need someone that can get them the ball. At this point Darnold is a way better prospect than Lock.

Seattle Seahawks – I know you are all going to hate this, but there have been way too many rumors about Russell Wilson being dealt. Sam Darnold has ties to USC Trojans and former head coach Pete Carroll. The Seahawks have not had a solid back-up in years, at this point Darnold could come in right now and make their QB room better, and possibly be the replacement if Wilson refuses to play.

Chicago Bears – The Bears need a quarterback and they are not sold on Mitch Trubisky. At this point, why not land Darnold and shoot your shot. Darnold is a way better player than Trubisky and Foles. Darnold could end up turning the corner with the proper coaching. The Bears would need to get him some help but he could be a huge asset to DA BEARS!
