Pittsburgh Steelers OC Randy Fichtner not expected to be back in 2021
By: NFLHeads
The Pittsburgh Steelers have come out with the decision to not renew the contract of Randy Fichtner, their offensive coordinator. Fichtner has served as the offensive coordinator for 3 seasons, but has actually been with the Pittsburgh Steelers since 2007 as a Wide Receivers Coach, and a Quarterbacks Coach.
The Steelers are clearly trying to boost the efficiency of an offense that despite an 11-0 start was not moving well throughout the regular season. Big Ben had some OK weeks, but had some really awful games towards the end of the season and in the playoffs.
The running game has been streaky at best, James Conner was the leading rusher and only had 721 yards in the regular season, with a measly 4.3 yards per carry. No other back with meaningful carries had over 4.0 YPC.
The receivers were OK in some weeks, but with all of JuJu’s and Chase Claypool’s social media meandering, they are more of a detriment to the team.
The offensive line is still pretty good, but I do not think they are at the same premium level then they were before. Hopefully with a new coordinator, the offense can start to get humming again.
