Can Justin Fields break Ohio State’s curse for quarterbacks in the NFL? It is ugly
Ohio State has a horrible record at producing a good pro quarterback. This year, Justin Fields is considered the second best quarterback in the 2021 NFL Draft, but it is so hard for me to look past the fact that Ohio State quarterbacks have been so bad at the next level.
There have been 20 different quarterbacks since 1980 who led the team in passing and were great college quarterbacks, but this stat is insane.
The only quarterback of those 20 who started more than 5 games and finished with a winning record was Mike Tomczak. The wild thing is he was not even drafted.
I mean just today, Dwayne Haskins was released by the Washington Football Team. Justin Fields is a much more polished quarterback than Haskins, but it would be hard to select a quarterback from Ohio State with their past problems.
Fields helped lead Ohio State to the College Football Playoffs and threw for 1,521 yards and 15 touchdowns to just 5 interceptions. Fields is by far the best quarterback talent the Ohio State Buckeyes ever had but can you look past their horrible NFL luck if you are a General Manager?
