Five teams that should add Dwayne Haskins to a futures deal
Yesterday, it was really sad when Dwayne Haskins passed through waivers and not one NFL team claimed him via the waiver wire. I mean we have guys from the XFL playing this week. The NFL has a shortage of solid caliber players in the quarterback room right now and Haskins is still young. With 2021 quickly approaching, NFL teams can sign players to futures deals very soon. I feel there are five teams and many more that should call Haskins and bring him in. I mean there is one more week of football, it costs you nothing to sign him to a futures deal becuase it will be a new contract. Sign him to a one year deal, and see what happens. Let’s get to the teams I feel should sign him.
Indianapolis Colts – The Colts have Phillip Rivers and Jacoby Brissett. Both are free agents at the end of the season. They did draft Jacob Eason, but we are not sure he will be a success story. Will the Colts look for another veteran? The way I look at it, Haskins could be a relatively cheap option and maybe working with Frank Reich, Haskins can reclaim some of his confidence?
Pittsburgh Steelers – We watched Big Ben go on a four game decline this year. It was bad, and was kind of a short clip of what will happen very soon. Mason Rudolph will get to start this week and he has not been very impressive in his career. Adding Haskins as competiion makes sense, especailly with Ben saying he wanted to come back for 2021.
New England Patriots – Yep, I am going to add the Pats to the list. Cam Newton is not the answer, and Jared Stidham looks horrible as well. The Patriots need everything, and why not try Haskins during your rebuild. Maybe you strike gold, if not cut him. Everyone says Josh McDaniels is a guru, but he has done nothing without Tom Brady, so let’s see what he can do with Haskins.
San Francisco 49ers – Kyle Shananhan has Josh Johnson on his roster at some capacity. I am not knocking Johnson, but why not add a young player at this point especially when Jimmy G cannot stay healthy. The Niners adding Haskins makes a ton of sense to me. They have Mullins and Beathard but we are talking a futures contract. Quarterbacks are valuable and the Niners could end up trading one of the players they have and receive some nice compensation.
Denver Broncos – Many thought the Broncos would select Haskins at tenth overall before he dropped to 15. The Broncos would end up passing on Haskins, but it makes you wonder if they would be willing to bring him in? I mean, they did have him in for the pre-draft visit when he wore the Elway throwback jersey if you do not remember. Lock has been injured a lot, the Broncos played a practice squad WR this year at QB, you cannot tell me that back-up QB is not a need.
