New Mexico cancels high school football for their entire state becoming the first state


The State of New Mexico just became the first state to shut down football for high school. According to Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham, New Mexico cancelled all high school football games for the 2020 season.
In the announcement, Governor Grisham said that football and soccer have been cancelled. Other sports could be cancelled as well, but as of right now it is just soccer and football. She said that contact sports maybe able to play later on or at the beginning of 2021, but until they can contain COVID-19 football if over for high schoolers.
Cases in people under 30 have nearly tripled in New Mexico. According to the Human Services Secretary David R. Scrase said COVID cases are climbing at an alarming rate.
