2021 NFL Draft Prospect: Spencer Brown, OL, University of Northern Iowa
I love me some Northern Iowa football, the Panthers have such great history. I have worked with some amazing players over the years. Guys like Makinton Dorleant, Daurice Fountain, Karter Schult, DeAndre Hall and so many more. This year, they have several prospects, but one I want to talk about is Spencer Brown the huge offensive tackle that has NFL scouts talking.
Spencer Brown stands at 6’9 and weighs 321 pounds. He is a massive man and one of the best offensive lineman from the FCS in the 2021 NFL Draft. He was a huge pass catcher in high school hauling in 24 receptions for 288 yards and seven touchdowns as a senior. Get this, he also had 17 sacks. Spencer was a three sport athlete for Lenox High School. He earned first team honors in football, basketball and baseball. That is impressive when you are talking about an offensive lineman.
We all know offensive lineman are becoming more and more athletic. Usually offensive lineman are not the most agile players, but that has changed quite a bit over the years. Now, NFL teams are looking for players who have quick feet and can latch onto a block. Spencer Brown can do both, and has been doing both at a high level for years.
In 2016, Brown came to UNI and redshirted his first season.
He started in five games in 2017, before he suffered a season-ending injury, but he was the starting right tackle for the Panthers at the beginning of the year. No need to fear though, because Spencer rebounded in 2018.
Brown played in every game on the Panthers offensive line in 2018.
Last year Brown started every game at right tackle and earned second-team MVC honors. The 6 foot 9 senior anchors a Panther offensive line that returns four of five starters. I expect big things from Brown in 2020. So does Jim Nagy of the Senior Bowl in Mobile!
NFL Draft Diamonds Scouting Notes:
NFL teams love players that can move. They love quick feet on big men and Spencer Brown has that. He has a mean streak and is one of the toughest SOB’s in the FCS. He is a humble kid too. I love speaking with him, he has a level head on his shoulders and I feel he is willing to work and grind to become a great at the next level. Spencer Brown is a special player with NFL abilities.
