2021 NFL Draft Prospect Interview: Alani Pututau, DE, Adams State University

Alani Pututau Adams State
Alani Pututau is one of my favorite players to watch when breaking down film. He has this jab step that is insane. It looks like a James Harden step but he somehow rocks the OT’s to sleep.

Tell us about your university/college. Did you participate in any other activities or campus organizations other than football?

Adams State is a nice small town college. Not a lot of things to do but that keeps us focused on the grind. At the moment I am not in any other organization besides football.

What do your teammates say is your best quality?

My energy, it’s both a gift and curse. I feel like when I’m on then everyone is on, but when I’m down it all goes to hell. It’s something I’m working on.

What kind of role do you see yourself in on the team? What scheme and/or position suits your skill set?

I see myself as an edge pass rusher in a 4-3 scheme. Defensive end is definitely the position that suits my skill set.

Who is the best player you have ever played against in college?

When I played at snow college in 2016, we played Pima Community College and Jordan Agasiva ( plays with the Jaguars ) was their right tackle. Definitely one of the strongest dudes I played against

Which one of your teammates impresses you the most?

Alex Russom the lion heart!

Describe a time in your life when you were able to overcome a struggle.

When I lost 2 of my close friends. It was devastating and I struggled to overcome the grief.

If you didn’t play football, what other sport would you play?

If I could invest the same time I’ve put into football I would have to go with rugby.

What is something that you are most proud of? What would you say is your biggest achievement?

I am proud to be TONGAN! My biggest achievement is becoming a father, something I didn’t think about until my daughter tapped in. Greatest achievement!

Describe one of the most memorable plays of your collegiate career.

In JuCo I played as a D end and I had a 1 hand pick over a running back on a swing route. I felt like the fans went silent for a minute while I was catching the ball. I didn’t score but the interception was vicious.

Alani Pututau Highlights

Do you have a favorite athlete or professional team? Is there a player that you model your game after?

Aaron Donold is one of my favorite athletes. His hands are unreal. I can’t say I model my game after anyone, I just ball.

Who or what motivates you the most?

My Dad, he passed away and wasn’t able to see me become successful. He motivates me to go above and beyond to push it to the limit.  My family, immediate and the family I’ve created with my wife. They motivate me to be disciplined. I want to give my daughter everything she needs to become successful. That’s what motivates me everyday.
