2021 NFL Draft Prospect: Erik Hansen, DE, Upper Iowa University

Erik Hansen Upper Iowa
Upper Iowa has a special pass rusher in Erik Hansen. The kid has a non-stop motor and a knack for bringing down the quarterback in the backfield.

Upper Iowa may have the most disruptive defensive lineman in the country on their team. Erik Hansen does not quit and you begin to feel bad for the offensive lineman he is facing because they are not bad, but he just keeps attacking until he gets a sack.

Last year Upper Iowa edge rusher Erik Hansen wreaked havoc in opponent’s backfields all season long. The junior registered 47 tackles including 32 solo stops, 18.5 for loss, and 12.5 sacks. He also forced and recovered a pair of fumbles.

His 12.5 sacks rank as the fifth-highest total in the nation this season and second-best in the NSIC trailing only Chris Garrett of Concordia-St. Paul.

In his career, Hansen has 97 tackles, in which 24 of them are for a loss. He also has 16.5 sacks, in just 31 games. Hansen stands at 6030 and weighs 250 pounds. His first step may not be as fast as Chris Garrett’s or Alani Pututau both D2 edge rushers but Hansen has many more moves.

You see Hansen utilize the bull rush, the spin move and he will work relentlessly until he gets to the quarterback. This has to be the best year from Division 2 that I can remember.

NFL Draft Diamonds Scouting Notes:

Erik Hansen will get a shot in the NFL. He has a knack for getting after the quarterback. The 6030, 250 pounds pass rusher terrorizes opposing teams quarterbacks and offensive lineman. When watching his film you begin to feel bad for the offensive lineman because Hansen does not take a play off. The offensive lineman gets tired, but Hansen does not slow down. – Damond Talbot, Owner, NFL Draft Diamonds
