Five teams that need to call the Buccaneers about TE O.J. Howard
The Bucs drafted O.J. Howard 19th overall in 2017 out of Alabama, but he apparently isn’t meshing with head coach Bruce Arians, who took over Tampa Bay last season. Howard played in 14 games last season, catching just 34 passes for 459 yards and a touchdown. But the 25-year-old has put up numbers in his three-year career, hauling in 94 passes and 12 touchdowns over 38 games.
According to the Athletic, Howard is currently on the trade block, which makes no sense with Tom Brady there now, but hey we are going to look at five teams that could use his services.
New England Patriots – The Patriots starting tight end right now is Matt LaCosse, I am not knocking him, but O.J. Howard is an upgrade. The Patriots and Bill Belichick are not afraid to make a move and this could be a nice parting gift after losing Tom Brady to the Buccaneers. I think it is his best fit at this point.
Washington Redskins – I think the Redskins could use some depth at the tight end position. I know they recently signed Logan Thomas, but this is O.J. Howard we are talking about. Ron Rivera likes to use his tight end and did it quite a bit in Carolina with Greg Olsen. This move is a smart one especially when Jeremy Sprinkle is the penciled in starter.
Arizona Cardinals – Do you want to talk about putting a team over the top? They already landed DeAndre Hopkins, then they can trade another pick over to the Buccaneers to land O.J. Howard. Jeez, that would be an insane trade, especially with the relationship that Arians and Keim have with one another.
Green Bay Packers – The Packers have an aging Marcedes Lewis and I know they have Jace Sternberger, but O.J. Howard is similar to Jimmy Graham who they recently lost. I think Howard can come in and give the Packers another huge target to help them get over the hump.
Buffalo Bills – The Bills have Dawson Knox and Tyler Kroft, but O.J. Howard is better than both. I think Dawson Knox is going to be a good prospect, but I think he is a huge upgrade over Kroft. Kroft recently took a pay cut, and I think Howard would be an amazing addition for Josh Allen, but do they have the draft capital to land Howard?
I think that O.J. Howard will be moved, but what will they get for him? I think the Cardinals have to be the front runner at this point.
