Cam Newton to the Los Angeles Chargers just makes sense
Chargers head coach Anthony Lynn recently gave Tyrod Taylor his blessing to be a front-runner in the race for the starting quarterback job. That is great and do not get me wrong I am a huge Tyrod supporter being I am a former Bills fan, but you are in Los Angeles. Your fans are not going to be happy if you do not make an attempt to do something at the quarterback position after deciding to part ways with Philip Rivers.
The Chargers need a quarterback and when I look at the options the one quarterback that continues to pop into my head is Cam Newton. I think Newton and Tyrod would be an amazing one two punch. Newton is a very solid quarterback when healthy and he is a gamer.
Cam Newton is expected to pass his physical in March which would allow the Panthers the ability to trade him. There is already tons of smoke that the Panthers will in fact deal him, and a move tot he Chargers makes too much sense.
Newton, 30, if healthy, would provide a huge upside with a Los Angeles team that played in the AFC Divisional Round just two seasons ago. Plus, Newton’s mobility could mask some of the offensive line issues that seem to always plague the Chargers.
The Chargers will be opening a new stadium and you cannot have a faceless Franchise QB for a new stadium. Cam brings the lights, the attitude, and the action. I mean look at the way he dresses already, he would be perfect for LA.
Newton capped off the 2015 season by capturing MVP honors and leading the Panthers to a 15–1 record and a trip to Super Bowl 50. When he is healthy the guy is a gamer, he has not been healthy lately.
Statistically speaking though, Newton has 28, 708 passing yards in his career with 4,806 rushing yards. He also has 58 rushing touchdowns and 182 passing touchdowns to just 108 interceptions. The Chargers offensive line is not great but the elusiveness of Cam makes the Chargers his smartest destination.
