Tell us about your university/college. What was your major/minor? How is campus life?
Drake is in Des Moines, Iowa and is a smaller D1 school. It’s a good time here on campus and you almost always have friends in your classes. Des Moines is also a great city that has a pretty fun downtown area. I’m a senior here and am majoring in Data Analytics and Finance with a concentration in Actuarial Science. Drake also helps a lot with starting a career and making sure you are going in the right direction.
What do your teammates say is your best quality?
Probably that I’m easy going and have a good sense of humor. I’m at the point in my career where I feel comfortable on the field at all times so, with that, I’m able to play more free and make calls from the back of the defense.
What kind of role do you see yourself in on the team? What scheme and/or position suits your skill set?
I see myself as one of the leaders of our defense. Being one of the older guys, I feel more comfortable and confident with my calls on the field. I would say the position that suits me best is probably deep safety. My best skills are my awareness and playmaking ability. I have pretty decent ball skills too and always going to go up for it.
Who is the best player you have ever played against in college?
I have played against a lot of great players. To name a few I’d probably say Hakeem Butler and David Montgomery from Iowa St. or Dallas Goedert from SDSU.
Which one of your teammates impresses you the most?
A lot of the other db’s impress me. Danny Morales probably does the most because of his foot speed and cover ability.
Describe a time in your life when you were able to overcome a struggle.
This past season I was pretty on and off with injuries and just had to work my way through it and get ready so that I can play in the next game.
If you didn’t play football, what other sport would you play?
Soccer probably. I grew up playing and for college was deciding between soccer or football to play.
What is something that you are most proud of? What would you say is your biggest achievement?
Last year, I hauled in 8 Ints which led to an All-American season. It was something I never even pictured happening until now. I was also honored when I was named to the Preseason Buck Buchanan Award Watch List for 2019.
Do you have a favorite athlete or professional team? Is there a player that you model your game after?
Favorite athlete is probably Dwayne Wade, and I always loved how Ed Reed covered the field.
Who is your favorite music artist? What gets you pumped before a game?
Big Chance the Rapper guy. I usually try to stay loose before games by listening to music and hanging out.
What is your favorite comfort food?
Qdoba has recently moved into my top spot.
Do you have a favorite movie or actor?
Probably Semi-Pro
What do you do in your spare time? Do you have any hobbies?
Hangout and play video games. I get together with my friends, hangout a lot and play pickup games for basketball, spike ball and other things
Who or what motivates you the most?
Definitely family, friends and teammates. Playing well to make people that you’re close to proud is what it’s all about.
