Five players at risk of getting cut next week that could be impact players in the NFL
The NFL is a cruel game and next week teams will begin cutting their team down to 53 players from 90. Many players will get the axe and I wanted to talk about 5 players I feel could get released that could go on and make a difference in the NFL this year. Let’s do this.
Kiko Alonso, LB, Miami Dolphins – I think the Dolphins are done with Kiko. The Cuban Missle could potentially be on his fourth team in just a few years. He is always committing stupid penalties, but there are so many teams that have a need at the linebacker position I am sure he will find a home quickly and make a difference in 2019.
Eli Manning, QB, New York Giants – Daniel Jones has looked the part, and let’s face it the team could save some big-time money. There are several teams that could use Manning right now. One team that comes to mind is the Indianapolis Colts who just lost Andrew Luck to retirement. I know they have Jacoby Brissett but why would you not want to add a Super Bowl Champion like Eli? The question is would the Giants move on from him?
Rex Burkhead, RB, New England Patriots – The Patriots are stacked at running back and I feel the team could be ready to move on. They have Sony Michel, Damien Harris whom they drafted and James White. Keep Burkhead is a mistake and I do not feel the Patriots will utilize him the way he could be utilized. A team like the Texans would be crazy not to sign him with the recent injury to Lamar Miller.
Tavon Austin, WR, Dallas Cowboys – The Cowboys have depth at the wide receiver position for once and they recently added Randall Cobb. The former first-round pick out of West Virginia is going to be fighting for playing time. I could see a team picking him up like the Giants, who are in dire need at the position. Austin can play special teams as well as play slot.
Emmanuel Sanders, WR, Denver Broncos – I could see John Elway and the Broncos moving on from Emmanuel Sanders. While Sanders has been very solid for the Broncos, they drafted a bunch of youth. They have Daeshon Hamilton, and Courtland Sutton and may try to move on without Sanders in the slot.
