Former high school player who made headlines for being homeless kills his girlfriend

In 2018, Jamal Speaks drew national attention when Ballou High School in Washington, D.C., denied his attempt to play high school football because he was homeless. The school later reversed the decision and allowed him to play. Well, tonight he is in the news for something else, but it is not football related.
Speaks, 19, of Palmer Park, Maryland was arrested Friday on first- and second-degree murder charges in the slaying of his girlfriend Saniyah Floyd.
Initially, responding officers and detectives were advised by witnesses that the victim accidentally shot herself. An autopsy revealed that her wound could not have been self-inflicted, and the medical examiner ruled her death a homicide.
The subsequent investigation revealed that Speaks had illegally purchased the gun and had been playing with the gun throughout the day. At approximately 10:30 pm that night, Speaks fired the weapon one time, striking the victim. Speaks then placed the gun in the victim’s hand to make it appear as if she had shot herself. He has admitted his involvement in this incident.
This is sad news, please keep the Floyd family in your prayers. Keep the Speaks family as well, because both are going through a very tough time.
