Dallas Cowboys Tryout Treasures: Possible Fits from the 2019 NFL Draft

Xavier Turner the running back from Tarleton State has been flying up NFL Draft boards and he should be after his solid NFL pro Day.

Tryout Treasures Dallas Cowboys  Edition 2019 draft by Matt Anzio

  • RB   Xavier Turner
  • Tarleton State University
  • Height – 5’9
  • Weight – 230

Turner is one of my favorite backs in this draft

He should hear his name called day 3 or his phone ring immediately prior to the draft. A priority back because of his mix of power & quickness. Tough wrecking ball type that can be a weapon in the Red zone.  He had some outstanding career with 25 games 2,224 yds with 33 TD’s. Was the 2018 Lone Star Conference RB of the year. Just a physical specimen has the thick lower half that is hard to wrap up. The quick feet to make defenders miss. He is a special talent that from my research the Cowboys among others feel the same about the Back from Tarleton.

  • S – Lane Johnson
  • Lamar
  • Height: 6’ 1
  • Weight:  195 lbs

Another  Texas blooded talent at DB that would add FS depth to a talented young secondary.

Did a Hidden Gems Secondary Report can be googled on Johnson. He had a top 10  SportsCenter Play of the week with an insane block to win the game in OT. He has plenty of experience at FS good size, range short-area burst. Strong tackler good timing instincts intelligent & a coachable well spoke respectful talented DB.

  • RB  Cedric Battle
  • Central Arkansas
  • Height: 5’ 9
  • Weight: 190 lbs

Battle is a special talent with the rock in his hands.

Whether in the passing game or on returns Battle will make defenders miss with his elusiveness, quickness & toughness to get the extra yard. Can be a commodity in the passing game  & a top KR prospect. Dallas has a good backfield but looks to be adding depth & coming out of Arkansas sure they are quite familiar with Battles impressive play.

  • Proday: Forty – 4.43     Short shuttle – 4.15     Vert 35” Broad – 9’ 8 ‘ L drill – 6.75
  • WR Quintin Vinzant
  • Height- 5- 10
  • CETYSUNI
  • Tijuana (Mexico )

Vinzant is a rocket smooth route runner & returner with hands like glue.

The route he has taken to play the game he loves is a story for another day but long story short he wound up playing ball in Tijuana Mexico.  Ridiculous sideline presence & awareness making those tough grabs on his tippy toes. Agile flexible with the ability to make acrobatic catches & take it to the house on any given play. Has had to work hard for everything he has achieved & he has the hunger you can harness into greatness.  Can catch in traffic shows the physicality to block looks like a prime sleeper slot prospect. Think he could help them from missing Beasley to badly.

Pro Day –   Forty – 4.37       Short Shuttle – 4.08       Broad – 10 “ 1 “ L drill –  6.90

  • WR Jon’vea  Johnson
  • Toledo
  • Height : 6’0
  • Weight : 188 lbs
  • Proday:
  • Forty – 4.38
  • Vert – 35”
  • Broad – 10’  8”

Did not receive a combine invite despite having a nice college career.

Had 660 yds & 9 TD’s as a Senior in 2018 with 24 career TD’s.

It is apparent the Cowboys not having a first rd pick losing Beasley in FA that they need some fire power & speed. Johnson provides both plus a legitimate scoring option at wide out. The Cowboys are very interested in the prospect from Toledo. Could be a late rd add or another high priority FA.

  • K  Mark Orozco
  • Grambling State
  • Height – 5’9
  • Weight: 170

I’m not gonna pretend I know that much about kickers.

Actually the first year I featured kickers but I do know Dallas along with many others is in the market. After a year like last year being an accurate kicker is in high demand. The Cowboys have met with Orozco a couple of times.  Plus he’s a small school HBCU guy so feel the need to mention him. On his career, he broke the SWAC record for most points with 316. Had a good pro day caught the attention of at least 10 scouts on hand at the GSU Proday.

  • DB Kiante Goudeau
  • Minot State
  • Height: 5’ 9
  • Weight: 190

Maybe one of the biggest sleepers in the draft.

Featured his teammate rivers in a Hidden Gems & have been a fan of Kiante ‘s game since before the season but kind of like Drew Roach of Pace wanted to feature him but slipped my mind. When it came to a fit for Dallas just makes sense to me. Like the way has been drafting & assembling defensive talent. Kiante could fit that culture of young quick physical has played outside but would most likely move inside. With 4 career TD’s you know he is a weapon with the ball in his hands.

When you think of a great player like Jourdan Lewis from last years draft can see some similarities guys.  He can get physical off the line keep tight coverage on his His closing speed is on the elite level. 2018 1st Team All-Conference, Cliff Harris Award Nominee & Don Hanson 3rd Team

Career Stats !!!

130 tackles, 10 INT, 15 PBU 4 FF, 3 FR & 4 TD’s  & Pro Day Numbers : Forty – 4.52 Bench – 18

Vert – 37 “   Broad – 10’ 1 “

  • OG/ OC  – Montay Harris
  • Sul Ross State University
  • Height : 6’2
  • Weight : 360 lbs

Straight up mauler sleeper no one is talking about!

A 3-year starter for the Lobos &  2 Time ASC Conference Honorable Mention he has dominated his level of play.   Tremendous size stout not easy to disengage from knows how to drop his weight in on his blocks. Can anchor the line well plant himself in the ground like a telephone pole not moving Harris easily. Although he wasn’t afforded a pro day his tape looks  He did have 27 reps at the BSN combine but was not able to do everything due to a tweaked hammy. His tape is worth a look along with a lot of impressive blocks. Can slide out on combo blocks get his big hands inside the shoulder pads drive defenders back. Looks for work against the run & can hold his gap for quite a while in the passing game.

  • TE Jerome Washington
  • Rutgers
  • Height: 6’ 4
  • Weight: 256 lbs

Not exactly the deepest TE draft on earth & I find depth in positions others do not.

There are a few sleepers that pique my interest Washington is definitely in that group.  Not that he had big numbers or anything but he can do what you need of a 3rd or 4 Tight End.  Did average 18.4 yards per play through. He is consistently played in all 11 games for the Scarlet Knights in 2018 as a senior.  Has the size toughness technique to block both in the run & pass game. Is obviously strong as a Bull & shows the vertical prowess to highpoint the ball. Could Be an excellent red zone threat & Dallas does need TE depth. Washington has met with them as well.

Proday Fort – 4.51      Reps- 27 Vert – 36 “  Broad – 10 “ 3”

  • LB – Ty Summers
  • TCU
  • Height: 6’ 1
  • Weight: 241

Powerful & quick would depth to already solid LB group.

Can just explode off the line play all over the field great Blitzer & outstanding in coverage. Most likely will get a shot late round or a high priority FA. A team captain that had an amazing 318 career tackles. A 2018 Combine invite, All-Big 12 Honorable mention & 2018 semifinalist for Jason Witten Man Of The Yr Award. That obviously the Cowboys are familiar with would fit in perfectly to that improved LB corp or make an impact on ST from the jump. Really like this prospect thinks he could fit in 43 or34. Sure he has the interest of a handful of teams at least.

Combine results:  Forty – 4.51 Reps – 27     Vert – 36” Broad – 10’ 3”
