NFL DraftProspect Interviews

NFL Draft Diamonds Prospect Interview: Harley Vaughan, OL, University of West Georgia

What is your name?

Harley Vaughan

What is your Height/Weight?

6’3 295lbs

What is your position?

Offensive Line (Center, Guard anywhere you want to put me)

Where do you play college football?

The University of West Georgia

Where are you from?

Dawsonville, Georgia

Who is your role model, and why?

My parents are my role models because of how hard they work, and the sacrifices they have made for me and my sisters.

Who was your favorite teacher?

My high school math teacher Mrs. Rucker

Did you play any other sports growing up?

Yes, I played football, baseball, and a couple years of basketball. I also wrestled my senior year of high school.

Who was the toughest player you ever faced?

I think that would have to be Darius Allen my freshman year from CSU-Pueblo. He was a dang good player and has been in both the CFL and NFL in recent years.

Who is the most underrated player on your team?

I think everyone on my team is underrated because we come from a smaller division 2 school.

What is the one song that would fire you up before the biggest game of your life?

Honestly, I don’t have a go-to song I have a playlist I have put together over the years, and I listen to that before every game.

If you could compare your play to one player in the NFL who would it be and why?

If I had to compare myself to someone it would be Ali Marpet. He has played center and guard making him versatile, and he has good technique and is very agile for someone his size. We are also both from smaller schools and not big D1 schools. I feel like we are comparable and similar in these ways.

What was the biggest obstacle in your life you had to overcome, and how did you overcome it?

My biggest obstacle was my shoulder surgery this past offseason. The surgery was late after spring ball and the recovery time was the beginning of the season if I really pushed it. I got the surgery around mid-April and had to grind every day from then on out to get better and get ready to get back on the field. I was able to overcome it with the support of my teammates, coaches, and athletic training staff.

Do you have any pre-game rituals?

Before every game, I would walk around the field and throw the football with a couple buddies of mine. I also write stuff that’s important to me on my wrist tape before every game.

What was the most memorable play of your collegiate career?

I think the most memorable play for me happened this past year. We ran a gap scheme play to the right and they brought the house and we picked it up perfectly, and our running back Travis Custis went one on one with the safety and hurdled him for a touchdown. It was a wild play that I will never forget.

What is the coolest thing you ever did off the field for someone else?

I would say volunteering at an FCA camp during high school and helping younger kids learn and enjoy the game of football.

Who was your favorite NFL team growing up?

Atlanta Falcons

If you could have dinner with three people dead or alive, who would you choose?

I would choose Lila Vaughan, Gene Seitz, and Berta Seitz. Three of my grandparents that have passed away that I would like to have one more day with.
