Drew Brees and the #Saints are in ongoing discussions about a new deal

This morning Drew Brees was on NFL Networkd talking about his current status with the team and his contract situation, and he was very upfront about it. Brees says the Saints and his agent are in ongoing discussions.
“No, I mean listen, conversations are ongoing and as this usually goes, it usually goes with contract talks, it kind of goes throughout the off-season,” he said on NFL Network. “As soon as there’s something to report I’ll let you know.”
Brees recently turned 37, and the Saints haven’t made the playoffs since 2013. Brees was asked about his future Tuesday as well.
“I definitely feel like I’ve got quite a few more but I’m taking it one year at a time because as you know, you’ve got to prove it every year,” he said.
According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Media Insiders, the Saints explored trading up to the first pick in the draft, and they have strong interest in Paxton Lynch. It will be interesting to see if the Saints draft a quarterback in the first round, or to see if the Saints are just using this ploy as leverage in negotiating a deal with Brees.
