Raiders could be headed back to Oakland

The Oakland Raiders could be turning back to Christian Ponder. ESPN’s Chris Mortensen reported the Raiders have reached out to free agent QB Christian Ponder.

Ponder spent the off-season with the Raiders but was beaten out by Matt McGloin for the backup job. He was drafted by the Minnesota Vikings with the 12th overall pick in the 2011 NFL Draft. He played college football at Florida State University and was the Seminoles starting quarterback from 2008 to 2010.
It was in Oakland that Ponder was reunited with offensive coordinator Bill Musgrave, who coordinated the offense on the Vikings before being fired after the 2013 season. Ponder would play with Oakland’s 2nd team offense behind starter Derek Carr, ahead of Matt McGloin. But after four preseason games, the Raiders would release Ponder in favor of having McGloin be their backup.
