2016 NFL Draft Scouting Notes: Beau Blackshear, DT, Baylor
2016 NFL Draft Scouting Notes: Beau Blackshear, DT, Baylor
By Lijah Spencer (@tweaked74)
As we near the beginning of the college football season we will continue our look at random draft eligible players. As always these notes are based off from last year’s film and will precede the full report which will come later this season. Here are my notes:
Beau Blackshear. 6’4. 300 Lbs. DT. Baylor
The Positives
1) Great NFL size
2) Fights hard through his blocks to make the play
3) Ability to split double teams
The Negatives
1) Has ok, but not great power.
2) Needs to play with better leverage at times
3) Somewhat limited athletically
Beau Blackshear is a starting defensive tackle at Baylor University. He is the clog in the middle of the line that allows his linebackers to run more freely to the ball. He plays with good effort, often times fighting through double teams to make the play. He plays with OK power, but it could be better considering his size, and he also needs to improve his leverage, or point of attack (the lower man usually wins). Last season he totaled 44 tackles (27 solo), 4.5 sacks, 1 fumble recovery, and 1 blocked field goal. With another solid season Blackshear should at least get a look from NFL teams come next April.
