That Time of the Year again Chiefs fans; Should we doubt John Dorsey?

It is that time of year again. It is the NFL draft; however, if I am being honest; it is a lot like a football lovers Christmas. Anything is possible. The Chiefs brain trust just might draft your player crush. You know the one you have watched have a huge game in whatever your choice of college bowl games you like the most. If John Dorsey selects your crush, you promise you will never question his BPA (Best Player Available) choice again. You realize Dorsey has this! After all, he agrees with you. Obviously, he knows talent when he sees it. Madden GM mode has you foolishly convinced, that being an armchair general manager is simple. The draft does funny things to us. If the Chiefs take someone else other than your draft crush you know you will sulk the rest of the evening. Now, finally, the moment you have been waiting for; the Chiefs 1st round selection is announced. There, that feels better. Now, you are off to the NFL shop to procure his new jersey. The only tricky part remaining is do you go white or red jersey.

It might seem like I am making fun of you but I am not really. I have been there. In fact, I will be there again tonight after our Chiefs pick a BPA or trade down to gather early second round picks for Friday. I am just like you. Let me tell you about it. I was spending the weekend at my sister’s house. I was there to visit my nieces and nephew. I somehow selected draft weekend. Note to self: Pick another weekend next time. Anyway, so I was in Moberly glued to the TV that Saturday A few days before the draft I read Terez Paylor’s piece on DeAnthony Thomas a dynamic punt and kick returner from Oregon. He had earned the nickname Black Momba from rapper Snoop Dog. Thomas had earned the nickname simply because Snoop said he had never seen anyone run that fast. The piece Terez wrote intrigued me even more. Would the Chiefs be able to grab that guy? We had lost Dexter McCluster in March; and being honest, I took it hard. The Chiefs had been one of the best special team units in the NFL in 2013. What would we do now? Special teams ace Dave Toub had done a lot with very little, but would the team offer him some help after losing Dex? I knew we had a great kick returner in Knile Davis; but punts were different. Had we agreed to lose the dynamic punt return option? I didn’t want us to do punt returner by committee. I seriously wondered what we were doing? The fourth round started and after what seemed like an eternity; we were finally on the clock. The announcer then said The Kansas City Chiefs select DeAnthony Thomas, RB Oregon. My mouth dropped open. It took a moment before I registered what we had just done. We grabbed the black momba! I jumped up and down and ran outside. I excitedly screamed to my sister who was on the phone. We got black momba. We got black momba!!! My sister brought me back to earth when she said, who is Black Momba? I love my sister but seriously, how could she not know? Anyway, John Dorsey became my hero because he had a plan. Moreover, I will remind you as much as I remind myself, do not doubt John Dorsey. He always has a plan.
