Philip Rivers does not want to play in Los Angeles; Chargers need to trade him

Could the Chargers trade Philip Rivers to the Titans for Marcus Mariota?

The time is now for the Chargers to make a move for a Franchise quarterback.  Philip Rivers holds the keys right now and he is not happy with the teams recent news of maybe moving to Los Angeles according to UT-San Diego.

Despite some inside Chargers Park pressing the narrative that the Los Angeles factor is overblown, the team knows it is not.

There are numerous people in the organization dreading a move to L.A. as much as Rivers is. Everyone knows it is possible – some even believe likely – the team will move in 2016 or ’17.

So what does that mean?  The Chargers better trade Rivers now, while his value is still very high and with the opportunity to land a potential starter to replace him.  The Chargers are in Oregon today talking and meeting with Marcus Mariota who should be there with the second pick.  That second pick could be heading to the Chargers though, because Ken Whisenhunt has reportedly shown major interest in the veteran.  If the Titans do want Rivers they are going to have to give the 2nd pick up for him head up.  I would not expect a player of Rivers stature to require more, since he is a Pro Bowl caliber quarterback, which are very rarely traded.

If the Chargers do land Mariota they will also have the 17th pick in the draft, in which they can address the running back position.  With this move, the Chargers will be younger but long term they will be better off.
