Every year, NFL Draft Diamonds brings our readers the best in depth interviews on the internet. We specialize in giving players an opportunity to showcase their talents on our website. We conducted interviews last year with over 300 plus players. We want you to enjoy our interviews, because when these young men are in the league, we will not be surprised, and neither should you.
What is your name?
Jake Waters
Where did you attend school?
Kansas State University
What is your height & weight?
6’0, 215 lbs
How many teams were recruiting you out of high school?
Iowa Western Community College, no other offers
How did you choose your college?
Iowa Western was my only opportunity out of high school to be able to play college football so I went there and earned some D1 scholarships. Picked Kansas State based on fit and it was where I felt most comfortable.
Where are you from?
Council Bluffs, Iowa
Who is your role model, and why?
Dad. He sets a good example for me to live by and shows me that you have to earn everything through hard work.
Have any scouts met with you yet? If so, what are they saying?
Yes, they are saying that they like what they see on tape and that I will get a chance to prove I can play at this level.
Did you play any other sports growing up?
Yes, basketball and baseball.
Did you play any other positions in football?
No, have played QB my whole life.
At your position, what separates you from others?
I am a winner, very competitive, and am a leader.
When you are breaking down film, what do you look for?
I break down my film study with a ton of cut ups. I go through all the blitz packages, 1st and 10, 3rd down, etc. I look for tendencies the defense may have and look at how they try to defend certain formations.
Who was the toughest player you ever faced?
Eric Kendricks LB, UCLA
If you could compare your play in one player in the NFL, who would it be and why?
I would say either Drew Brees or Russell Wilson based off of height. Both guys are very smart and know how to attack a defense. Russell Wilson can extend the play with his legs, but always is looking downfield to throw.
What was the biggest obstacle in your life you had to overcome, and how did you overcome it?
Either not being recruited out of high school and having to go the junior college route to prove myself, or what I am going through right now after having surgery on my throwing shoulder.
Do you have any pre-game rituals?
Nothing too extreme, I go through the same throwing warm up on the field and put my equipment on the same way every time.
What is your biggest strength?
Competitive drive, leadership
What is your biggest weakness?
Too hard on myself at times, I want perfection.
If I were a GM and gave you a second to sell yourself, what would you say?
I am a guy who is a proven winner that will bring great energy, leadership, and competition to your team and am willing to work as hard as possible to make it.
Who was your favorite player and NFL team growing up?
Aaron Rodgers and Denver Broncos.
If you could have dinner with three people dead or alive, who would you choose?
LeBron James, Tom Brady, Mark Wahlberg
