Eagles only committed to Ryan Mathews because they didn’t want to renege on deal?
According to Jeff McClane the Philadelphia Eagles were not going to make a move for DeMarco Murray, but when he stated he would like to play for the Eagles, the team listened. The team also had already agreed to a deal in principle with Ryan Mathews the former Chargers running back. Well McClane is reporting that the Eagles did not want to renege on a deal after getting stiffed once by Frank Gore.
Kelly sold both Murray and Mathews on the idea of a three-headed ground attack, one similar to how he used his running backs at Oregon. But there is a theory that the Eagles didn’t want to renege on their handshake deal with Mathews (three years, $11 million, $5 million guaranteed) after Gore stiffed them.
This is pretty interesting, and it makes you wonder if Ryan Mathews could now be dealt as trade bait? Think about it Sam Bradford, the Eagles first round pick, their first in 2016 and Ryan Mathews for the second pick in the NFL Draft? The Tennessee Titans need both a QB and a running back……Just saying!
