Malcolm Butler will receive Tom Brady’s MVP truck; Has to pay taxes though
Chevrolet told CNBC that they will give the truck they usually give to the Super Bowl MVP to Butler. Quarterback Tom Brady, who won the MVP award and likely needs another set of wheels as much as he needs another pair of Uggs, expressed interest in giving the truck to Butler in recognition of the undrafted rookie’s interception at the goal-line with seconds to play in Super Bowl XLIX.
Because the car is considered a taxable prize by the Internal Revenue Service, Brady would have been on the hook for a tax bill of $13,500 for accepting the car and another $8,000 in gift tax for bestowing it upon Butler. Thanks to Chevy, which won’t be issuing two vehicles, Brady will hold onto that cash although Butler will presumably still owe the taxman something.
