Do the Patriots kick themselves for letting Welker go for Amendola?
Danny Amendola has been a huge bust since entering Patriots camp. The Patriots might have to just admit they made a huge mistake and chop it up as a loss. Tom Brady took a pay cut to bring back his friend Wes Welker. The team went against Tom’s wishes and let Welker sign with the Broncos.
Welker would go on to play in the Super Bowl and catch 10 touchdown passes, while the Patriots signed Danny Amendola who had never made it through an entire season healthy. Well, after a rough season in 2013 catching 53 passes for 633 yards he did not make it through another year. Injuries have always been a huge concern in Amendola’s career. Well yesterday, Amendola admitted that he had surgery in the offseason.
“It really doesn’t matter anymore, whether I did, or didn’t. I’m not going to make excuses. I don’t want anything to seem like it’s an excuse,” Amendola said, via theBoston Herald. “I’m over it. I don’t feel the need to talk about it. It’s in the past. I feel great right now. I’m trying to get open on every play. It’s not slowing me down. I feel great today. That’s what I’m grateful for and thankful for. I’m just trying to prepare for this week.”
This year Amendola has a lousy 3 receptions for 16 yards, and has not been an impact. Aaron Dobson has 1/3 the catches Amendola has and he has been suspended from team activity for 2 games. I think the Patriots need to admit they made a mistake on this one.
