New Raiders coach told Derek Carr there is no time for him to be a “Rookie”
Tony Sparano will face the San Diego Chargers this week and he is going all in with rookie quarterback Derek Carr. He said this week he is invested in the rookie quarterback.
“I said to him, ‘This is your football team, you’re the quarterback. We don’t have time for you to be a rookie right now. This team needs you to step up and be that leader. Don’t sit around and wait to do that,'” Sparano said. “Derek’s DNA, he wants to go out there and do that, he wants to be the leader. So just by the way he goes about his business in the classroom and out on the field and how hard he works. We had a really good conversation and he knows that he has to wear that hat. He knows that comes with the position and he’s excited about that.”
Derek Carr will face a feisty Chargers defense this week, but he can move the ball on them. The Buffalo Bills proved that, if their defense can come in and compete with the Chargers making them one dimensional the team could pull off an upset. They will need help from their defense.
