Jerry Jones will not give Jason Garrett a contract extension just yet

garrettIn the final year of his contract, the Cowboys head coach has his team off to a 6-1 start, which has everyone excited, but owner Jerry Jones is not ready to commit to Garrett long term.  Garrett has been a pretty mediocre head coach up until this point, but has the team going in the direction.

“I don’t know that anybody has had a better, brighter vision of Jason’s future than I do,” owner Jerry Jones said, via Charean Williams of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. “I’ve always thought he had the potential to be a serious, consistent, winning coach in the NFL and still think that. … I’m just glad to see him have this kind of success.

“His players hang on every word, and they’re seeing what he’s preaching works. That’s an ideal set of circumstances for a coach that is looking for a big future in the NFL.”

I honestly believe this was the smartest thing for the Cowboys owner to do. I would not be looking long term deal until my team was in the Playoffs and winning.  The Cowboys are potentially one injury away from a horrible record.  If DeMarco Murray goes down which he has in the past watch out, because they will not have a running game.
