Eagles had tons of money and wanted a safety, they paid the right man
This past offseason the Philadelphia Eagles wanted a safety and they had deep pockets. The fans really wanted to sign Jairus Byrd, but the Eagles went in a different direction. They signed Malcolm Jenkins.
So far, the decision has paid off, as Jenkins is having a career year with the Eagles. Byrd, on the other hand, has seen the six-year, $54 million he signed with the New Orleans Saints turn into a disaster.
Byrd was placed on the season-ending injured reserve list on Friday with a torn lateral meniscus, an injury he suffered during practice.
Out of the 76 safeties that Pro Football Focus has ranked, Byrd came in at 65th after four games. The website has Byrd with seven missed tackles.
Jenkins, on the other hand, is currently the third-best safety in the NFL according to Pro Football Focus.
It looks like the Eagles made the right decision, and Malcolm Jenkins is in first place in the NFL for interceptions. Looks like a smart move.
