Vikings will start Matt Asiata; Call up Joe Banyard
Matt Asiata will start Sunday’s game, according to nfl.com. Rookie Jerick McKinnon is the primary backup.
The Vikings previously deactivated Peterson for Sunday’s matchup after the veteran was indicted on charges of reckless or negligent injury to a child.
The 27-year-old Asiata has 49 career carries for 185 yards (3.8 average) in three years. Starting in place of Peterson in one game last season, Asiata had one of the oddest statlines you’ll ever see: 30 carries for 51 yards (1.7 average) and three touchdowns.
The team also called up Joe Banyard from their practice squad.
