Panthers restructure DE Charles Johnson contract; Free Up 5 million
Today the Carolina Panthers made a move to free up 5 million dollars in cap space. This move was not expected, but what a great move for the team.
Joe Person of the Charlotte Observer reports that the Panthers have restructured the contract of DE Charles Johnson to free up some extra cap space.
According to Person, Carolina dropped his base salary to $950,000 and converted the remaining $7.8 million to a signing bonus that is prorated over the remainder of the contract.
This move frees up $5.2 million in available cap space for the Panthers as it drops Johnson’s cap figure from $16.4 million to $11.2 million.
