Lions could still be very interested in Champ Bailey
This week Champ Bailey worked out with the Detroit Lions, but the reason he might not had been signed is because a rule in the NFL rule book.
Basically what happens is this. If you are a vested veteran and have played in the NFL for more than four years, and you are on a team for week one, your contract is fully guaranteed. This is no matter what, even if you are cut by week three, or if you get injured. So to prevent players from getting a huge pay day, the teams will shy away from vets until after week 1.
@RapSheet: Lot of vets getting cut today to prevent their salaries from being essentially guaranteed. Same reason guys like Champ Bailey haven’t signed
So guys like Champ Bailey and other vested vets could be signed by next week.
