Michael Vick paid 10k to get the number 1; All proceeds went to a Charity for Kids
Michael Vick has a bad reputation around the NFL, but when he changed his number from 8 to 1, he did something pretty impressive. To get the number 1, Vick would have to negotiate a deal with punter Ryan Quigley the former Myrtle Beach, South Carolina native.
Quigley did not want the money for himself, so he asked if Vick would be willing to give the money to a charity in South Carolina. The two reached an agreement. Quigley gave it up on condition that Vick pay $10,000 for it and donate all of the money to charity.
Vick plans to make a donation in Quigley’s name to Teen Angel of North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina and to the Boys and Girls Club of New York.
“Most of the time in the NFL, if a veteran requests your number, you work out a financial agreement between the two players,” Quigley said in the statement. “I was not interested in the money for myself. I wanted to find a way to help some others.”
It just goes to show you that Punters are people too, Good people that is…..
