Are the Minnesota Vikings trying to trade up to the 2nd overall pick?

We have been hearing from several reports that Zach Mettenberger from LSU could be the guy that the Minnesota Vikings are interested in.  That would make a lot of sense if the Vikings had intentions of landing a top five player in the NFL Draft.  The Vikings lost Jared Allen this year who has been the face of the Vikings defense for the past several years, and while they signed Corey Wooten and re-signed Griffin the team still needs help on their defensive line.

If the Vikings were truly thinking about staying put with the 8th pick, they might have a shot at Khalil Mack or Jadeveon Clowney, but I highly doubt either one slip past the fifth pick.  So could the Vikings be planning a trade up to the second pick in the draft?  The Rams are known to trade, and are not afraid to make a deal if they can add additional draft picks in the following years draft.

There have been numerous reports that the St. Louis Rams like Jake Matthews, and Greg Robinson the two offensive tackles, but if they can move back to 8 and still get one of their guys, why wouldn’t they?  We already know that the Vikings want to keep their 2nd round pick because they have interest in Mettenberger, but could they trade their 2015 first rounder to move up 6 spots to the #2 spot in the draft?  If they do they can land Jadeveon Clowney if he is there?

According to John McClain of the Houston Chronicle the Texans are in love with Johnny Manziel and he will probably be the first pick in the 2014 NFL Draft.  If that is the case, then Clowney would still be there.  Could you imagine Mike Zimmer having a guy like Jadeveon Clowney on his defense?  The Vikings would have one of the scariest front four in football, and they would not have to give up much to get the most athletic freak in 10 years.

The last real freak of nature to come out in the NFL Draft with Clowney’s figure was Mario Williams, who is still dominating his competition right now.  If the Vikings could some how land Jadeveon Clowney and only have to give up a 1st round pick in 2015, would you do it?
