Draft Diamonds Prospect Interview: Malcolm Butler, CB, West Alabama

How many teams were recruiting you out of high school?
Not one recruited me because I only played football in the 9th grade
Where did you choose and why?
I chose Hinds Community College..If I would have played football my entire four years in high school, I am sure I could have landed anywhere, but I was not committed to school at that time.
What were your goals for your senior year?
I wanted to score a bunch of times and pick off the quarterback a lot.
Have any scouts met with you, and if so what are they saying?
Nearly 10 Teams at the Medal of Honor bowl, They asked have I ever been in any trouble (yes JR college), Will I play special teams (yes), and what all sports did I play (football, basketball, track)
At your position, what separates you from the others?
MY RECOVERY SPEED, MY BALL SKILLS, MY KICK RETURN ABILITY, and MAN TO MAN COVERAGE
Tell us what you look for when breaking down film?
I look for my opponent’s strengths and weakness, also formations.
Who was the toughest player you have ever faced?
Cedric Jackson MID WESTERN state Running back.
If you could compare your play to one person in the NFL who would it be?
Brent Grimes
What was the biggest obstacle in your life you had to overcome, and how did you overcome it?
Getting kicked out of JR college…I overcame it by attending Alcorn State University, getting class hours to get back on track to playing football, my Jr college gave me a second chance by accepting me back. I became more wiser & smarter, also a better person

Im the type of player that will never give up, I had small trouble in my life, which I am over the hump of that now. You could pay 500,000 this year and 100,000 the next year and you still will get the same 100% out of me, I just love the game of football.
Growing up, who was your role model?
Micheal Vick
Who was your favorite team and player in the NFL and why?
Atlanta Falcons mainly because of Mike Vick and the color of those uniforms. Mike Vick was my favorite player, he ran into a problem with the dog situation, and I ran into a situation with my Junior college problem when I was kicked out. Vick’s was more serious but problems are problems, but we both overcame and got back on track.
