Draft Diamonds Prospect Interview: Kevin Fogg, CB, Liberty University
Draft Diamonds Prospect Interview: Kevin Fogg, CB, Liberty University
How many teams were recruiting you out of high school?
There were not many teams that I had coming out of high school that offered me. I was a smaller running back and no one wanted to take a chance on me. Schools like NC Central University, Presbyterian College, Elon University (took their offer back), Western Carolina (took their offer back), and Liberty University.
Where did you choose and why?
I chose Liberty University because it was a place where I felt like I could get so much from than just playing football and I did. It was a Christian school, most importantly, and the football program was huge here.
What were your goals for your senior year?
My goal for my senior year was to just have fun playing my last year and putting myself in the best position for any possible post college plans in football.
Have any scouts met with you, and if so what are they saying?
I have spoken with a few scouts and coaches and they all expressed interest. I have worked out for five teams since my pro day. While they may not see me as drafted, multiple teams have told me that they want to see me in camp.
At your position, what separates you from the others?
I love to compete at all times and it brings out a different player in me. I love to be a ball hawk and a perfectionist in whatever I do.
Tell us what you look for when breaking down film?
I like to look for the things and details that will give me an advantage over my opponent. Things like route patterns, alignments, foot placements or a receiver’s favorite route to run.
Who was the toughest player you have ever faced?
I would say my former teammate Mike Brown, who plays wide receiver for the Jacksonville Jaguars.
If you could compare your play to one person in the NFL who would it be?
I would say over the years that Champ Bailey would be someone of comparison because of his ability to play both the cornerback and nickel position in the league.
What was the biggest obstacle in your life you had to overcome, and how did you overcome it?
I would say breaking a bone in my foot during, what would have been, my senior year and trying to figure out if I was about to come back for another season. I was able to come back but it was difficult to deal with and go through the process. God definitely taught me how to have faith and it wasn’t an easy task at all. My teammates, coaches, family, friends and support from all over were truly encouraging to me and they all helped me get through that process.
What system fits your style of play the best?
I feel like I could fit into any type of system because I am the type of player who would work to try and get myself in the position to be ready for anything thrown my way.
What is your biggest strength?
My biggest strength is being a true competitor who is always ready to compete at ALL times and in any situation.
What is your biggest weakness?
My biggest weakness is being a perfectionist and being hard on myself with the small things.
If I were a GM and gave you a second to sell yourself, what would you say?
I would say that I would be a great asset to his organization because there is never a time where I do not want to compete. I am someone who loves to win and will do anything it takes to make sure I give it my all to make it happen. I have always had great leadership and I am a very coachable player willing to help out in any way possible. I can play cornerback, nickel back, I am a return man, both kickoff and punt, and I play all other special teams.
Growing up, who was your role model?
My mom was my role model because she basically took care of my older and younger brothers and me on her own. It was a great journey to see how strong she was and I will do whatever it takes to make her proud in any way possible.
Who was your favorite team and player in the NFL and why?
My favorite team was the Panthers and I loved to watch Deion Sanders, Barry Sanders and Emmitt Smith.
What was the most tragic event that ever happened in your life and how did you overcome it?
The most tragic event was when my cousin I grew up with passed on November 9, 2012 at age 22 years old and that being the same season that I broke a bone in my foot. It was tough to overcome but I knew I had to because it was so much at one time but it all made me stronger. I had to do it for my family and had to trust that God for sure had a plan for me.
If you were to have dinner with three people dead or alive who would it be?
Jesus Christ
Brionn Sheelor, my cousin who passed away
Deion Sanders
With your first paycheck what would you buy?
I would buy a drivable car but nothing too big and very convenient that I would need for my first car.
