Draft Diamonds Prospect Interview: Kameron Jackson, CB, California
Draft Diamonds Prospect Interview: Kameron Jackson, CB, Cal
How many teams were recruiting you out of high school?
I was recruited by the all of the schools in the Pac 12, Boise State, Nevada and Cincinnati.
Where did you choose and why?
I chose to go to UC Berkeley “Cal” because the coaching staff was very professional, and the education that Berkeley provides is the one of the best in the country.
Have any scouts met with you, and if so what are they saying?
Yeah, I have met with several scouts and they are telling me that there is a lot of interest.
At your position, what separates you from the others?
I am different from the other defensive backs in the draft because I bring a sense of urgency, I am very athletic, I have great ball skills and I am very physical.
Tell us what you look for when breaking down film?
When breaking down film I look at the wide receivers releases off the line, their route running skills, and the quarterback giving any signals I can catch on for play recognition.
Who was the toughest player you have ever faced?
The best competition I faced this year was Brandin Cooks (Oregon State), and we battled with each other all game.
If you could compare your play to one person in the NFL who would it be?
I compare my skills to Darrelle Revis because I like to be on the island a lot, just the receiver and me.
What was the biggest obstacle in your life you had to overcome, and how did you overcome it?
The biggest obstacle I faced was trying to earn a starting position my sophomore season. I overcame that obstacle by making the best of my opportunity to enter a game vs. UCLA after a cornerback got hurt and I ended up getting three interceptions that game.
What system fits your style of play the best?
I can fit in any system. I can play zone, coverage, and man-to-man.
What is your biggest strength?
My biggest strengths are my footwork, ball skills, and speed.
What is your biggest weakness?
The biggest weakness people say about me is my height, but I use it to my advantage.
If I were a GM and gave you a second to sell yourself, what would you say?
I would tell any GM, if you are looking for a person that is dedicated to his job, willing to work hard every play and chance he gets, I am the right person for you. I will bring a high sense of urgency to the field, play special teams and be an overall playmaker when I step on the field.
Growing up, who was your role model?
Growing up my role model was DeSean Jackson because we grew up in the same neighborhood, went to the same high school/college, and I watched him succeed in the NFL for 7 years.
Who was your favorite team and player in the NFL and why?
I like all of the teams equally. Anybody willing to draft me will be my favorite team.
If you were to have dinner with three people dead or alive who would it be?
I would have dinner with my mother, dad, and grandma
With your first paycheck what would you buy?
With my first paycheck I will buy my mother and pops whatever they want, only if it isn’t too expensive though.
