Draft Diamonds Prospect Interview: Josh Moody, DT, Rhode Island
Draft Diamonds Prospect Interview: Josh Moody, DT, Rhode Island
How many teams were recruiting you out of high school?
Three teams were recruiting me out of high school.
Where did you choose and why?
I chose Rhode Island because of the simple fact of loyalty. I was not cleared by the NCAA clearinghouse, but they stuck by me. They gave me a chance when no school would.
What were your goals for your senior year?
My goals for my senior year included, All-American, All-conference, and most importantly win a Championship.
Have any scouts met with you, and if so what are they saying?
I have had no meetings with scouts, but I have received some positive feedback. I’m just waiting on that call.
At your position, what separates you from the others?
I consider myself a Hybrid. I am a guy who can play both Defensive Tackle and Defensive End. But what separate me from others are my Get-off, Hands, Toughness and Lateral Quickness. I love the game of football. It is my passion.
Tell us what you look for when breaking down film?
Of course I begin too looks for opponent’s tendencies and weakness. As D-linemen I tend to look for O-Linemen who tend to lean, whether they play with great pad level, pass sets, timing of hands and feet. I also tend to look for moves that they struggle with or vice versa. I look for things that I do well that I know would work on them. I even look for attitude, are they aggressive, mean, nasty, and just the whole approach to the game. And last but definitely not least, of course I study formations and learn the opposing team’s situation tendencies.
Who was the toughest player you have ever faced?
Justin Pugh, who is now the starting tackle for the NYG
What system fits your style of play the best?
I consider myself a hybrid so I believe I can play in many defenses as a tackle or end. But I believe a 3-4 tackle or 4-3 end would be my best fit.
What is your biggest strength? What is your biggest weakness?
The use of my hands is my strength and definitely my weight would have to be my biggest question and that depends on what position the team or system requires me to play.
If I were a GM and gave you a second to sell yourself, what would you say?
If I could sell myself I would tell GM’s that you will not find anybody who loves the game more than me. I am not going to be the fastest or strongest on paper. But you line me up with anybody and we can go. I am a true football player. I love to compete and want to show the world what I can do given the opportunity.
Who was your favorite team and player in the NFL and why?
I have been a Giants fan my whole life. I’m from NYC so I am a true New Yorker at heart. (Knicks, Yankees). It has been a rough year for NY Sports but we’ll bounce back. And favorite player growing up was Mike Vick. I am still a fan of him to this day. He is just an amazing athlete with great ability and just always loved to watch him play.
With your first paycheck what would you buy?
My first check is going straight to my family. That’s all I want to do is take care of my family the way took care of me. They gave me everything I can ask for; I am just trying to return the favor.
