Patriots release offensive lineman Markus Zusevics and DT Isaac Sopoaga

The New England Patriots announced the release of second-year offensive lineman Markus Zusevics, who was a longshot to make the roster. Zusevics spent the 2013 season on injured reserve.

Zusevics, who played in college at Iowa, had originally signed with the team as an undrafted free agent in May of 2012. He injured his pectoral muscle at the Combine and never really truly recovered.  This is not a major cap saver, but it does clear up a roster spot, in which the Patriots have several people visiting today.

On Wednesday, they dropped someone. Mike Reiss of ESPNBoston.com reports that the team has told defensive tackle Isaac Sopoaga that he will also be released. Patriots gain $2.5 million in cap space by parting ways with Sopoaga.
