Will Miami Dolphins look to free agent Maurice Jones Drew to fix their running problems?
The Miami Dolphins currently have three running backs on their roster that are worth a squat. They are Lamar Miller, Daniel Thomas and Mike Gilleslie. The Dolphins hired Bill Lazor as their new offensive coordinator and one thing is for sure the guy likes to utilize the run.
Bill Lazor helped previously unknown Nick Foles go from a backup quarterback to a Pro Bowler this season. But a little-known stat is Philadelphia’s offense actually led the NFL in rushing last year under Eagles head coach Chip Kelly. Lazor certainly picked up some pointers from Kelly’s offense and the successful running game that he hopes to bring to Miami.
The big question is whether or not the Dolphins will keep what they have on their roster or explore free agent options. Right now the only real option at running back in free agency is Maurice Jones-Drew, who is aging but still can get the job done. He is better than all three Dolphins running backs right now and could be had for a lower salary since he is getting older in age. Will Bill Lazor make a push to land the free agent running back or will the Dolphins try to salvage a run game with three suspect backs?
