Browns could have a new defensive line coach soon in former NFL Standout Anthony Weaver
Bills head coach Doug Marrone expressed concern Monday that he may lose defensive line coach Anthony Weaver to the Browns. On Tuesday the Bills granted Cleveland permission to interview Weaver.
Weaver is the last assistant on the staff who came to Buffalo with Mike Pettine from the Jets. it’s believed Pettine will offer him the defensive line coaching job in Cleveland.
Weaver has worked with and played for new Browns coach Mike Pettine for much of his NFL career. Weaver was the Jets’ assistant defensive line coach in 2012 when Pettine was defensive coordinator on Rex Ryan’s staff. Pettine joined the Bills as defensive coordinator in 2013, and Weaver also joined the Buffalo coaching staff, moving up to D-line coach.
Weaver, 33, was a Ravens defensive lineman from 2002 through 2008, notching 257 tackles and 15.5 sacks.
I will say this, Anthony Weaver is very, very close to Mario Williams. So this could become a factor in his ultimate decision.
