Football is about giving back, what is the coolest thing you have done off the field?

I have a homeless man in front of a 7/11 fifty dollars just because I had it.

What was the hardest college class you ever had to take?

Chemistry 101 and 102

Where are you from?

Clinton, Maryland

Who is your role model, and why?

My Father is my role model because he taught me how to walk, talk, and carry myself in public. Everything he does I emulate. He taught me to work hard, nothing in life will come easy.

Did you play any other sports growing up?

Yes, swimming, basketball, wrestling, tennis, and soccer.

Did you play any other positions in football?

Yes I played DT and DE in high school 

At your position, what separates you from others?

My work ethic, grit and mean streak. I try to punish opponents I face and make them remember who Anthony Gartrell is. 

When you are breaking down film, what do you look for?

I look for tendencies in pass rushing, and if they time out when they take plays on or off.

Who was the toughest player you ever faced?

Anthony McDaniel from Bowie State a transfer from JMU we were on the team at the same time my freshman year but I had to go against him when he was on scout team Defense.

If you could compare your play to one player in the NFL who would it be and why?

I would compare myself to Marshall Yanda because I’m mainly a run blocker. I’m a decent pass blocker too but run blocking is my passion.

What was the biggest obstacle in your life you had to overcome, and how did you overcome it?

My biggest obstacle was getting a high ankle sprain that sidelined me for 3 weeks my senior year. I overcame this by getting proper treatment and therapy to get back at it.

Do you have any pre-game rituals?

I listen to “walk the line” by Johnny Cash.

I would have to overcame not getting the exposure as most division 1 schools and also the talent level I play.

What is your biggest strength?

Strength, run blocking, pulling, getting movement.

What is your biggest weakness?

Hand placement and dropping the inside foot on pass pro. I still have to tell myself to resist doing that.

If I were a GM and gave you a second to sell yourself, what would you say?

Sir, if I get an opportunity to represent this club I will be the most hardworking individual that you would have ever seen walk through door. My work ethic will not only impact your club it will change the people in the locker room around me.

Who was your favorite player and/or NFL team growing up?

Washington Redskins

If you could have dinner with three people dead or alive, who would you choose?

Richard Pryor, MLK, and Ghandi.

With your first NFL paycheck what would you buy?

I will take my parents on a nice vacation to thank them for all the love and support they give me.
