Background: A 5th-year at DE in the 4-2-5 and 3-3-5 defense at NCFA under head coach Richard Hayes, Jr.. Lined up as a 5T, 7T and Wide 9.
Strengths: Has a lean, muscular build and plays with above average play speed. Gets off the LOS at the snap vertically with above average explosiveness and acceleration. Moves horizontally with good lateral quickness and COD skills when crashing down inside. Plays with strong hands at the POA when pass rushing. Strikes OTs well to shock him when transitioning from speed to power. Uses good hand placement while flashing ability to bull rush. Utilizes his arm length well to stack and rip when rushing outside. Demonstrates okay quickness to slip through the C-gap. Uses good leverage and a rip move to penetrate through the B-gap. Takes good angles in pursuit of the QB on rollouts. Holds his ground well and has above average play strength and toughness against the run.
Weaknesses: Has adequate height and weight. Plays with average athleticism and a high pad level. Doesn’t show a 2nd move or counter move when defeated in pass rush. Has very little to no hip bend and overall flexibility to bend the corner when pass rushing. Inconsistent in keeping his shoulders square to the LOS against the run. Loses outside and containment responsibility on off-tackle runs to his side. Can dial down his play speed in backside pursuit on run plays that flow away from him.
Projection: Edge rusher in a 3-4 defense, DE in Nickel or Dime packages in pass rushing situations.
Summary: A quick and experienced player with adequate size that plays with above average speed, explosiveness and play strength. Has a high overall pad level due to his lack of flexibility.
