Micah Parsons Deserved Better: Jerry Jones Repeatedly Calls Him “Michael” in Press Conference
The Cowboys’ press conference surrounding Micah Parsons’ trade took a bizarre turn for many reasons, but one moment stood out in particular: Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones repeatedly calling Micah Parsons “Michael.”
At first, it seemed like a simple slip-up, with Jones quickly correcting himself each time. But then, Stephen Jones, Jerry’s son and the Cowboys’ executive vice president, stepped in to correct his father. It was an odd sequence that raised eyebrows.
While the occasional name slip happens in high-pressure situations, this one felt different. It wasn’t just a mistake—it seemed deliberate, or at least, unusually persistent. After all, Micah Parsons has been a staple of the Cowboys for four seasons, and Jones had always referred to him by his correct name. So why the change now?
It brings to mind the incident with Panthers owner David Tepper, who repeatedly referred to head coach Frank Reich as “Reitch” during a press conference after firing him. While small and subtle, these mispronunciations—or intentional missteps—carry an unmistakable tone of disrespect.
This could very well be a case of the same thing. While it may seem minor, it’s hard to ignore the sense that Jones, in his own way, might be delivering a quiet dig at Parsons, something he can brush off as a simple mistake, but which won’t go unnoticed. It’s the kind of slight that doesn’t scream disrespect, but it definitely whispers it.
In a business where relationships and reputations matter, it’s hard to shake the feeling that Micah Parsons deserved better than this.
