The 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles may still be three years out, but NFL fans already have a reason to celebrate — the league has officially announced that its players will be eligible to compete in the flag football competition.

The decision was revealed Tuesday, as NFL team owners unanimously approved a resolution allowing active players to participate in the Olympic Games.

“It is an incredible honor for any athlete to represent their country in the Olympics, which is the pinnacle of global sport,” said NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell. “I know first-hand that the inclusion of flag football in the Olympics has sparked a tremendous amount of excitement among NFL players interested in the chance to compete for their country on the world stage.”

With some of the world’s top football talent now eligible to suit up for Team USA, anticipation is already building for what could be one of the most electrifying events of the 2028 Games.
